Aware of the loss and overall devastation brought on by the tsunami in southern Asia and the eastern coast of Africa, the students, teachers and parents of Ms. Niamh and Ms. Heather's class at the Montessori School at Emory, organized and participated in an incredibly successful fundraiser that ran from
January 27-28, 2005.

The children were so excited, they dubbed the fundraiser, "the FUN-raiser." They baked treats for the bake sale and enthusiastically sold lemonade and cookies. They also produced wonderful works of art (presented beautifully by Ms. Niamh) that were bid on and sold in a silent auction. Ms. Niamh also made 60 grab bags, some even with books in them, which the children were able to purchase. Every grab bag sold! Parents produced amazing cakes that were sold to eager customers.

Other classes at the school joined in as well. Ms. Teresa's class sold butterfly and puzzle magnets the children had made and a variety of other items.  Even Ms. Stephanie's and Ms. Tonya's toddlers (with the help of Ms. Edis) produced art to sell.

The children raised $1930.30.
The school is matching with funds of  $2619.70 which comes to a grand total of
$5000 to be sent to UNICEF.

Thanks so much to all the teachers, assistant teachers and the parents who helped to organize the event, and everyone who made baked goods.
